Oracle APEX Developer Day
9:30 am - 4:00 pm
Oracle Application Express (APEX) is becoming more and more popular as organizations discover just how quickly they can build and deploy web and mobile applications using this deceptively powerful tool.

We will be hearing from Joel Kallman, Senior Director, Software Development at Oracle, on APEX 5.1 and the future of APEX, as well as insights from APEX thought leaders like Scott Spendolini and Vincent Morneau. And there is more! We will also be hearing from Francis Mignault who just recently released a new book on APEX Administration, and from Jason Straub who will highlight new possibilities with the Oracle Exdata Express Cloud Service.

We will close the day with a series of Lightning Talks, where APEX developers will give 10 minute demos of some cool applications they have built. These lightning talks are a great way to see the possibilities with APEX, and can kick start your own ideas.

So, if you've ever been curious about building web applications, or may have heard of APEX and are interested in learning more, please join us for APEX Developer Day!

9:30 am - 9:45 am Welcome
9:45 am - 10:30 am

Oracle Application Express - Ahead of Its Time. Leading the Way Forward
Joel Kallman, Oracle Corporation
Opportunistic. RAD. Agile. Citizen Developer. Low Code. High Productivity. Cloud.
Words that have been a reflection of Oracle Application Express over 18 years are now suddenly resonant in the IT landscape. With a focus on declarative database-centric application development, Oracle Application Express has evolved and kept pace with technology over many years, and without interruption to existing customers and their applications. And while CIO's and architects can today appreciate the advantages of a highly productive application development platform, the Oracle Application Express development community has been reaping these benefits for years.

Learn about these emerging topics in the IT industry, why they are important, how Oracle Application Express delivers on these today, and what the bright future of Oracle APEX looks like.
10:30 am - 10:45 am

10:45 am - 11:30 am

GET POST ORDS JSON: Web Services for APEX Decoded
Scott Spendolini, Sumner Technologies
Web Services in the APEX world are becoming more and more popular.  However, there is still a lot of confusion as to what they are and how they could benefit the APEX developer.  After a review of the syntax and jargon associated with web services, this session will review and boil down web services to their basic components.  It will then demonstrate how APEX developers can start to use these powerful components - both to send and receive data from other sites.

11:30 am - 12:15 pm

The Essentials of Dealing with Static Files in APEX
Vincent Morneau, Insum
When speaking about APEX, very often we hear about how great it is for PL/SQL developer; a real Oracle Forms killer. While this is true, APEX is also a very good container for client-side code (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, etc.).
Front-End developers can find their cup of tea as much as Back-End developers here: It's just not advertised like that.
The foundation of a great front-end codebase lies in the static file structure. This session will explain how to create such a structure, where to drop these files, what to avoid and finally a few tips for being more productive.

Whether you are a beginner or an experience APEX developer, this session has no prerequisite and will benefit everyone.
12:15 pm - 1:15 pm Boxed Lunch
1:15 pm -2:00 pm

Oracle Application Express Administration
Francis Mignault, Insum
Once an enterprise starts using Oracle Application Express (APEX) many applications are rapidly created to help manage the business. At this point DBAs start asking more questions and get concerned as to their role in managing APEX and installing it in Oracle databases.
Common questions from DBAs are usually raised such as:  How can I make sure that I can properly backup and recover our APEX applications ? What happens if I need to upgrade the database or APEX ? How do I integrate an APEX installation with EBS ? What are the different component required and supported for the middle-tier ? Those questions and much more will be answered in this session.

2:00 pm - 2:45 pm

Oracle Exadata Express Cloud Service
Jason Straub, Oracle Corporation
The Oracle Exadata Express Cloud Service is an affordable and fully managed database cloud service based on Oracle Database 12c Release 2 running on high performance Oracle Exadata engineered systems. This session will introduce this service and explore its benefits. The session will also describe and demonstrate the main features of this cloud service, including full SQL*Net access, REST, and JSON interfaces, and show how you can drag and drop data from on premise to the cloud.

2:45 pm - 3:15 pm

3:15 pm - 4:00 pm Lightning Talks / Open mic
4:00 pm Final Closing
